U.

"and u stand, and u stop and U stare"

U. is a piece of performance poetry created for a project at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

The intertwining nature of the world very much inspired the content of both poem and piece as Anna, our co-artistic director, became fascinated by how both U and I are born as extras in ‘an epic story that continues invisibly around you, like an anthill sprawling deep underground with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, lives in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blue of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.’

Inspired by the work of F.Scott Fitzgerald, Hafiz of Shiraz and a heartache or two, Anna's trail of thought took her away from our much-needed connections and reassurance that comes with human interaction and towards a deeper, much more vital connection: the one between self and soul. A connection of the most superior importance which accurately confirms that dependence can only truly exist when it lands upon yourself.

This work can be used for poetry festivals, dance festivals and intimate performance venues.
