Alex Corwin
Alex Corwin is Programme and Artist Development Manager at Bradford Arts Centre, where she looks after their year round programme of events and supports artists working across dance, theatre, music and spoken word to create their projects. She has a particular interest in working with diverse artists (including those working in South Asian dance and LGBTQIA+ artists) and in building programmes that engage hard to reach audiences. She has a background in Marketing and led BDAC's name change and rebrand in 2025. Previously she has worked at Ilkley Literature Festival and Harrogate International Festivals and been part of the steering groups for Maya Productions Routes to Roots project and Womenzone's Sufi Music Heritage Project.
Katie Hewison
Katy Hewison is a dance artist, originally from Yorkshire, who trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance. She toured as a performer with Verve18 and later with Northern Rascals, Akshay Sharma, Vanessa Grasse (UK/South Korea) and Mirjam Gurtner (Germany/Switzerland). Katy has a lifelong interest in researching how dance improvisation supports early years learning, through her role of Artistic Director of Improplay: a collaborative research and performance work presented in the UK, Germany and Italy. In 2022 Katy's work brought her to Dance Limerick, Ireland, where she now works as a Dance Artist and Community Engagement Producer to build ground-up programmes that connect communities, local artists and develop local partnerships to deliver artist and community led projects, annual cultural events and inclusive dance projects.
Lauren Murphy
Lauren works as a town planner for an independent planning consultancy based in Manchester, specialising in strategic planning and development primarily across the North West of England.
With her previous background in project implementation, and mental health and wellbeing in the higher education sector, she is particularly passionate about shaping better places for people and communities.
Matthew Slater
Matt is currently Head of Undergraduate Studies at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD). He has taught in higher education since 2014 and has extensive experience in curriculum development, student support, careers, inclusive practice and professional dance education.
He began dancing at 17 before training at NSCD, graduating in 2005. He went on to perform nationally and internationally with VERVE, EDge working with choreographers including Trisha Brown and Siobhan Davies, Yael Flexer’s Bedlam Dance Company and Retina Dance Company under the direction of Filip van Huffel. His career has encompassed performance, rehearsal direction, education, community dance and choreography.
As an artist and teacher, Matt’s movement practice is rooted in full-bodied connectivity, exploring weight, momentum, gravity, energy and expansiveness through contemporary technique, floor work, partner work and performance practice. He has created and performed work across the UK and internationally and continues to guest teach both nationally and overseas.
Matthew holds a BPA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance, a PG Diploma in Performance, and a PG Diploma in Arts Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. His work is driven by a passion for movement, education and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of dance artists and educators.
