REVIVING HER: YOUNG WOMEN’S VOICES
MAKE A FILM WITH US! PARTICIPANT CALL-OUT
What does it mean to grow up and live as a young woman today?
Northern Rascals is inviting women and female-identifying people aged 14-35 from West Yorkshire to help create a new film and sound installation called Reviving Her: Young Women’s Voices.
Through movement, writing, conversation and sound, we’ll explore themes of female safety, identity, freedom and belonging. This is a chance to meet others, share ideas and create something together, with your voices and creativity at the heart of the work.
This project is FREE to take part in, thanks to funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund.
What will we do?
Across a creative weekend and an evening film shoot, you’ll work with Northern Rascals’ Anna Holmes and Sam Ford, composer Wilfred Kimber and filmmaker Ben Williams to develop ideas into movement, spoken words and filmed scenes.
Saturday will be about getting to know one another and exploring ideas through movement, writing and creative tasks.
On Sunday, we’ll develop the material with our filmmaker, experiment with how it works on camera and begin shooting.
On Monday evening, we’ll bring the material together for an evening shoot. Wilfred will join us throughout, gathering sounds, words and voices to help shape the soundtrack.
The film and sound installation will be presented at Leeds Playhouse alongside our dance-theatre show, Reviving Her in February 2027, with plans to share the film online as part of the wider project.

Who is it for?
The project is for female-identifying people aged 14-35 from West Yorkshire. Whether you love creative writing or poetry, enjoy dancing or performing, are interested in film or simply want to meet new people and do something creative, we’d love to hear from you.
You don’t need any previous dance, writing or film experience. We welcome all backgrounds, bodies and levels of confidence.
You won’t be asked to share personal experiences or disclose anything you don’t want to. We’ll discuss how your image, voice and creative contributions would be recorded and shared before you agree to take part.
When and where?
Saturday 28 November 2026: 10am-5pm
Sunday 29 November 2026: 10am-5pm
Monday 30 November 2026: from 5pm for an evening shoot; finish time to be confirmed
Location: Dean Clough, Halifax, HX3 5AX
We’re hoping participants can join all three sessions, so that we can develop the work together before filming. If you’d love to take part but have a clash with any of the times, please get in touch and let us know.
Taking part is free. Please tell us about any access requirements or travel barriers so we can discuss support available through the project. For participants under 18, we’ll arrange parent/carer consent and share full details of the evening session in advance.
